Alexandria/Egypt, Symposium entitled "Mental Health and the Mediterranean".
The Symposium explored the impact of climate change on the mental health of Mediterranean citizens and the wider socio-economic upheavals. The Symposium was held in collaboration with the University of Ioannina and was under the auspices of the Patriarchate of Alexandria. The Symposium explored the impact of climate change on the mental health of Mediterranean citizens and the wider economic-social upheavals.
“We are here, in this historical place where Greece has always been the bridge between Europe and Egypt, as well as the countries of North Africa. its role today must be decisive, in terms of culture, trade, environment, for the countries of North Africa, which are the other side of the Mediterranean basin” said Dr. Elizabeth Grappa, President of Mesonisos, opening the Symposium.
“We are organizing this Symposium in Alexandria, in a place where Hellenism shone and created unique monuments of civilization. We came here to be inspired and to escape from the miserable, and sad, unfortunately, Greek reality. Whenever Hellenism is shrinking, Greeks abroad always provide the solution, they are the gold reserve that we all hope for,” said KEAN President Stavros Milionis, closing the symposium.
The symposium was held in the hall of the Library of Alexandria, where many of our expatriates attended, among them: the Consul of Greece in Alexandria Mr. Diakofotakis, the President of the Council of Hellenes Abroad Mr. Tamvakis, representative of the Patriarchate Archimandrite Panteleimon and many other distinguished Greeks of Alexandria.

Mrs. Papadopoulou-Daifoti Zoe, Professor of Pharmacology Laboratory of the University of Athens, spoke about the functions of the Mind and the Brain and mirror cells – a new type of cells recently discovered and believed to be the source of collective memory, Mrs. Meni Malliori, Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Athens. Athens and President of Okana, who referred to the “Holistic Approach”.
Mental-Somatic Diseases”, Mr. Venetsanos Mavreas, Professor at the University of Ioannina, spoke about “The development of mental health services in Greece: Recent data and prospects for the future”.

In the framework of the Symposium, the former Member of the European Parliament and Ambassador Mr. Zacharakis Christos spoke on the topic: “Claudius Ptolemy, a Historically Acclaimed Alexandrian Poet”.
