The book is a multifaceted and scholarly book which, as M. G. Dimitrios G. Gonis, will be the author of the book. Varvounis, Professor of the Democritus University, “the seriousness of the work and the multitude of sources used hitherto unknown, mainly from the archives of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and from the corresponding archives of the Vatican, and the Foreign Ministries of France, Italy and Great Britain, i.e. the great Powers of the time, which played a key role in shaping developments, indicate that this is a study that will soon be recognized as a basic reference work for modern and contemporary patriarchal history, but also for the history of the nation in general. (… It is an important study, with full control of the relevant archival material and an excellent knowledge of the existing literature, which illuminates aspects of the life and action of the Ecumenical Throne in the difficult and dangerous period immediately after the Asia Minor Catastrophe, when the Mother Church of Constantinople suffered all kinds of hardships, in order to finally emerge victorious from this terrible ordeal, which the author describes and studies in an absolutely scientific way”.
